The 3D Artist will work primarily in Blender / Maya and Unity to bring required game assets to life. A well-rounded 3D skillset is required, as well as the ability to create and use textures and UV / normal mapping in a manner compatible with Unity.
This is a project-centred role. The current project has a stylized art style requiring the use of toon shaders. Artist responsibilities may be renegotiated for subsequent projects.
Role / Responsibilities
- Work closely with 2D / VFX / Animation artists to conceptualise and develop new characters, creatures, and assets
- Model highly attractive mid-poly / low-poly characters that are well optimised for mobile devices
- Model, modify, or curate a large volume of in-game props and assets optimised for mobile devices
- Be responsible for all 3D texturing and UV / normal mapping requirements
- Ensure all work performs flawlessly in Unity
- Work with engineers on lighting and post-processing of assets in Unity
- Assist in developing the game’s art style
- Ensure a consistent art style throughout the game
- Respond effectively to feedback — edit requests should be seen as design challenges
- Set and meet deadlines that complement the project’s progress
- Use personal experience and initiative to assist with other development tasks
Required Qualifications
- A portfolio and CV clearly showing 1–3 years of experience in the games industry in a similar role
- Professional knowledge of modelling in Blender or Maya (Blender strongly preferred)
- Professional knowledge of texturing, mapping, and 3D optimisation
- Intermediate knowledge of Unity
- Basic understanding of rigging and animation to collaborate smoothly with animators
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
- Strong art fundamentals (e.g. colour theory, proportions)
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively in written English
